Battlestar Galactica Mini-Series Part 2g
New Scene:
Back on the Galactica, Commander Adama is reading the message from Colonial One, he resentfully says, "Is this a joke?" he turns to Dee and asks, "Are they within voice range?" She nods and says, "Yes, sir." Dee communicates with Colonial One, "Colonial One, this is Galactica. Galactica Actual wishes to speak with Apollo." On board the Colonial One, Apollo raises his head as if he knew this was coming and responds, "This is Apollo, go ahead Actual." Back on the Galactica, Dee hands the commander the headphones and he says, "Is your ship alright?" to which Apollo resentfully responds, "We're both fine, thanks for asking." Commander Adama responds, "Is your ship's FTL functioning?" Apollo replies, "That's affirmative." Then the commander responds, "Then you are ordered to bring yourself and all of your passengers to the rendezvous point. Acknowledge." Captain Apollo responds, "Acknowledge...." he careful chooses his words and continues, "receipt of message." The commander demands, "What the hell does that mean?" Apollo replies, "It means, I heard you." The commander replies, "You are going to have to do a lot better than that captain." Apollo replies, "We are engaged in rescue operations." The commander orders, "You are to abort your mission immediately and proceed to Ragnar." Apollo replies, "The president has given me a direct order." The commander replies, "You're talking about the Secretary of Education ....We're in the middle of a war and your taking orders form a school teacher!?"
Suddenly an alarm goes off, onboard the Colonial One. They have incoming Cylon fighters. The president asks, "How long till they get here?" The captain of the ship replies, "ETA 2 minutes." Captain Apollo then says, "He's right, we have to go now." The president, not wanting to look like a fool says, "No" shaking her head. Apollo replies, "Madam President, we can't defend this ship." The president, still shaking her head, replies, "We're not going to abandon them." Apollo says, "But sir if we stay..." The president interrupts, "I've made my decision." Apollo takes his headphones off, stands up and says, "You're the president." He then leaves the cockpit.
Back on the Galactica, their sensors detect the enemy fighters approaching the Colonial One, then the scene switches back to where Apollo is in the cargo bay. He is walking toward a large device positioned on the deck. He flips some switches and turns a dial, then the scene switches to outside the ship, to show the two Cylon Raiders approaching. The scene switches back to Apollo, where he is adjusting some controls, then switches back to Galactica, where the commander is communicating, "Colonial One? This is Galactica ...... Apollo? You have inbound enemy fighters coming toward you. Get out of there! Apollo!? Apollo!? Lee!? Get out of there!!" Then the camera switches to the computer screen that shows what seems to be a very large nuclear explosion going off. The commander slowly takes off his headphones and stares in disbelief.
After a slight pause, Gaeta reports, "50 Megaton Thermal Nuclear Detonation." There is complete silence in the command center and the commander, who is struggling with the weight of this devastating event, slowly turns to lean on the table in front of him. Unbelievable pain is shown across his face, then some very sad music starts playing in the background. The camera pans around the room to show everyone in complete dismay. A fallen soldier -- a hero and son of the commander, the President of the Colonies, and a great number of others succumbed to the devastating nuclear attack on Colonial One. Gaeta softly reports, "Cylons are moving off ...... Sir." Then the camera zooms to Commander Adama, who is experiencing the terrible loss of the only son he has left. Colonel Tigh approaches slowly from behind, and puts his hand on the commanders shoulder to try to comfort him.
