Battlestar Galactica Mini-Series Part 4c
Once Billy has left the room and closed the door behind him, the President's attention turns to Commander Adama, who has been waiting patiently, while observing. With a very serious face she asks, "Are you planning a military Coup? The commander looks confused and asks, "What?" The president replies, "Do you plan to declare martial law? Take over the government?" The commander, while slightly shocked, replies in a matter of fact, "Of course not!" The president, with some arrogance replies, "Then you do, acknowledge my position, as president as duly constituted under the articles of colonization." The commander, while insulted, replies, "Ms Roslin? My primary objective, at the present time, is to repair the Galactica and continue to fight." The president then says, "What we do know, right now, is that there are 50 thousand refugees out there, that don't stand a chance without your ship, to protect them." The commander replies, "We're aware of the tactical situation and I'm sure, that you'll all be safe here on Ragnar, after we leave." The president replies, "After you leave?", she clears her throat and then continues, "Where are you going?" The commander responds, "To find the enemy, we're at war, that's my mission." The president looks at Commander Adama with disappointment, gives a condescending smile and says, "I honestly don't know why, I have to keep telling, YOU, this. But the war is over." The commander, with determination replies, "It hasn't begun, yet." The president shakes her head and replies, "That's insane." The commander then asks, "You would rather we run?", to which the president replies, "Yes. Absolutely. That is the only sane thing to do, here. Exactly that. Run." After a slight pause, she continues, "We leave this solar system and we don't look back." The commander then asks, "And we go where?" The president replies, "I don't know. Another star system, another planet, somewhere where the Cylons won't find us." The commander, with a sense of pride replies, "You can run, if you 'ld like. This ship will stand, and it will fight." The president replies, "I'm going to be straight with you, here. The human race is about to be wiped out. We have 50 thousand people left and that's it. Now, if we are even going to survive, as a species, then we need to get the hell out of here and we need to start having babies." The commander considers her words and then says, "Excuse me.", as he gets up to leave.
New Scene:
Starbuck is back within wireless range of the Battlestar Galactica and she reports in, "I didn't get an accurate count, but it looks like there's two Basestars with 10 fighter squadrons and two recon drone attachments, patrolling the area." Colonel Tigh asks her, "Starbuck? Were you followed?", to which she replies, "Negative, no sign of pursuit. By the way they were deployed, I' ld say they were waiting for us to come to them." The commander has been listening and he gives Dee the order, "Bring her home." Dee radios to her, "Thank you, Starbuck. Continue present course, return to visual contact, and stand by for instructions." Starbuck replies, "Copy that Galactica. Starbuck out."
The commander, then says to Apollo, "Captain?" calling him over to the table, where Lieutenant Gaeta is working. Apollo walks over and Colonel Tigh asks, "How the hell did they find us?" The commander replies, "It doesn't really matter. They've got us." Gaeta then asks the commander, "Why aren't they coming after us, sir?" The colonel interjects, "Why should they? They can just sit out there, and wait us out. What difference does it make to them? We're the ones that need food, medicine, fuel." Commander Adama then says, "I'm not going to play their game. I'm not going to go out there and try to fight them." After a slight pause, he continues, "Can we plot a jump from within the storm?" Apollo, Tigh, and Gaeta have facial expressions that show they are listening with great intense. Colonel Tigh responds, "With all this EM interference, mucking up the FTL fix? Gaeta then advises that they shouldn't even, attempt a jump, until they have cleared the storm threshold. Apollo jumps in on the discussion, "We have to be quick about it, though. They'll launch everything they have, the first glimpse they get." Colonel Tigh suggests that they stick their nose out just far enough to get a good FTL fix, then jump.
The camera, briefly switches over to Dee's station, where Billy approaches and tells her that he is going back to the Colonial One and Dee is a little disappointed by the news.
Then the camera switches back to the escape strategy, being discussed, and Apollo asks, "And what about the civilians?" Colonel Tigh shakes his head and says, "Oh, they're probably safe, for the time being." Apollo then asks, "You mean leave them here?" Gaeta then offers, "The Cylons may not even know they are here, in the first place. They're probably only after us." Apollo quickly replies, "Now that's one hell of an assumption." Colonel Tigh then says, "Well, we can't very well cram 50 thousand men, women, and children aboard this ship." Apollo then replies, "I'm not suggesting that, sir. I'm just saying that we shouldn't leave them behind. They should jump with us." Gaeta then says, "I just don't see how we can manage that without jeopardizing ...." Apollo interrupts, "We pick a jump spot, far enough outside the combat zone ...." Then Colonel Tigh interrupts, "What the hell is outside the combat zone, at this point?" The commander, while thinking about what the President said earlier, says, "They better start having babies." To the commanders words, everyone seems confused, then Colonel Tigh says, "Is that an order?" The commander replies, "Maybe, before too long."
After a short pause, the commander continues, "Ok, we're going to take the civilians with us. We're going to leave this solar system and we're not going to come back." Colonel Tigh, with disbelief, asks, "We're running?" The commander, with a stern voice says, "This war is over. We lost." Apollo agrees, "My father's right. It's time for us to get out of here." Realizing that he's serious, Colonel Tigh then says, "So, where are we going, commander?" Commander Adama replies, "The Promar Sector.", to which Tigh replies, "That's way past the red line." The commander asks, Gaeta, "Can you plot that jump?" Gaeta replies, "I've never plotted a jump that far." and the commander interrupts, "No one asked. Can you plot that jump?" Gaeta then nods, "Yes, sir." Then the commander orders Gaeta, "Do it ... By yourself." As Gaeta goes off to follow the order, the commander turns around to look at the tactical display and says, "This is a bad tactical position ..... " He motions with his hand, "We'll pull the Galactica out .... 5 clicks ....the civilians will come out behind us, cross the threshold and make the jump, while we hold off the Cylons." Apollo and Tigh look on in optimism and the commander continues, "Once the civilians make the jump, every fighter is to make an immediate combat landing ... we don't have much time. Apollo nods and says, "I'll tell them." Then the commander tells Apollo, "I want all my pilots to return. Do you understand?" Apollo, while taking in the gravity of the situation replies, "Yes, sir. I do." As Apollo turns to leave, Colonel Tigh asks, "So, can I ask what changed your mind?" Commander Adama replies, "You can ask." then turns back to the tactical display. Then the colonel asks, "So, what do we do about our prisoner?" The commander looks back at the Colonel and the scene ends.
