Battlestar Galactica Season One, Episode "Water", Page 3
Suddenly, all six bombs explode, causing the ship to shake violently, which abruptly interrupts their conversation. The camera switches to the command center, where we hear Gaeta yell, "Decompression alarm! The camera, quickly switches outside, to show several bulk heads exploding and the Galactica's water supply, being vented into space! Back in the command center we hear Commander Adama order, "Damage report, Mr. Gaeta!", to which he replies, "Ruptures in tanks 3, 5, 7, 9 ...." Then, Colonel Tigh says, "There's strain on the under-up lines, they're going to blow!" Commander Adama orders, "Release the lines! ....Veer away, starboard!" The camera pans over, to show the ship's pilot maneuvering away from the Virgon Express, then Colonel Tigh yells, "Every tank on the port side is ruptured! We're venting all of our water, directly into space!"
New Scene:
We see Chief Tyrol and his Damage Control crew, all in space suits, entering the decompressed area of the ship. The chief radios, "CIC? This is DC-One ...We're entering the tank.", then we hear Dee reply, "Roger that, DC-One." The Chief walks around with his flashlight, making the initial inspection and finds the large hole in the side of the ship. He points his flashlight up to get a better look, sees Boomer's Raptor outside, then radios, "Raptor 478? DC-One. I have you in my sights." Boomer replies with, "Copy that, DC-One. I have you in sight.", to which he replies, "Understood." Then, she asks, "How's it look in there? Can you tell what happened?", to which the chief replies, "Lieutenant? Don't worry. I got things under control." Boomer replies with, "Copy that, DC-One. I feel better knowing you're on it.", which makes her shipmate stare at her, in confusion. So, in order to distract suspicion, she says, "Watch the light, you're off target!"
New Scene:
The camera shows the president, her aides, Dr. Baltar, and the higher ranking military officers, sitting at a long table and Gaeta is at the podium directly in front of them. The president asks, "How much water did we lose?", to which Gaeta responds, "Ten million JP's, sir. Almost 60% of total potable water reserves." The camera pans over to Commander Adama, who turns to the colonel and orders, "Emergency rations. Shut down laundry, showers ...anything non essential, immediately.", to which the colonel replies, "Yes, sir.", as he gets up from the table and leaves to carry out the order.
The camera, then pans over to the president who asks, "How long will our water supply last?", to which Gaeta responds, "Well, aboard Galactica, about six days ...But, one third of the other ships in the fleet were depending on us for replenishment. If we don't find new supplies, they'll run out of water in two days." With that information, Billy says, "One third ...that's sixteen thousand people." The president, then orders Billy, "Get the names of those ships ...tell the captains to go on emergency rations, immediately." Colonel Tigh comes back in the room and says, "There's going to be riots on those ships. Civilians don't like hearing they can't take a bath, wash their clothes, or drink more than a thimble a day.", to which the president replies, "Thank you for the warning, colonel." Commander Adama, then orders "That will be all, Mr. Gaeta." to excuse him from the podium, but the president quickly interjects, "Oh ...one more thing, Lieutenant? Do you have any theories about what may have caused the accident?" Gaeta says nothing, but instead, looks directly at Commander Adama. He then tries to appease the presidents question with, "Well, there are many theories at this point, Madam President.", to which she replies, "Take a guess.", but Gaeta does not want to speak of anything, that is unauthorized by his commanding officer. Then the commander interrupts the silence by saying, "I tell my officers not to guess. I prefer to wait, until we have facts." The president replies, with "Yes. Indulge me." Gaeta, who is still, unwilling to speak of anything, looks to the commander for a signal and after a short pause, Commander Adama says, "Take a guess, Mr. Gaeta." With that queue, Gaeta offers this to the president, "Well, I 'ld have to say the most likely explanation is, that the tank was structurally weakened during the Cylon Nuclear detonation ...during the first attack ...and that caused it to buckle and rupture.", the camera pans over to show Dr. Baltar's disbelief, then Gaeta continues with, "...but, it's too early to say, sir." The president replies, with "Interesting. Thank you, Lieutenant." Commander Adama, continues with a possible solution to the crisis, "Back to the matter at hand, I'm ordering an astronomical survey of the nearby star systems, for potential water sources." He then turns to the EXO and says, "Colonel?", to which he replies, "Yes, sir." and the colonel, immediately leaves, to delegate that order.
New Scene:
Meanwhile, back to the water storage tanks, where the Chief is inspecting the damage, Cally notices something and says, "Chief? Come take a look at this!" The chief walks over to where Cally is working and says, "What do you got?", to which she replies, "I'm not sure. It looks like burn marks from an explosive." and after a short pause, she continues, "What do you think?" Chief Tyrol doesn't want Boomer to be blamed for the bombing and labeled a traitor, so in order to hide any evidence that shows she may be involved, he says, "Well, it's tough ...tough to tell ...it's pretty rusted out.", but in the process of trying to cover it up, his own conscience is starting to get to him.
New Scene:
Colonel Tigh is, now at the podium and reports, "Optical and X-ray telescopes say there are five systems within our practical jump radius. All five have planetary bodies, with the potential of finding water in either a liquid or frozen state." With that information, Commander Adama orders Apollo, "Put together a plan for Raptors to scout each star system. I want the first launch to start at 17:30", to which the captain replies, "Yes, sir." The president, then asks, "Colonel? How likely are we to find water at any of these planets?" Annoyed, the colonel replies, "Now you want me to guess, I take it?" Commander Adama interjects, "Colonel.", which is a signal for Colonel Tigh to be more cooperative, so he says, "My apologizes, Madam President. Difficulty, for everyone." The president responds with, "I understand." The colonel continues, "Most planets are just hunks of rock, or balls of gas. The galaxy is a pretty baron and desolate place, when you get right down to it." Commander Adama, who is satisfied with the colonel's answer, says, "Thank you, colonel." to dismiss him from the podium.
The president, in disagreement with the commander's earlier order, says, "Your water rationing, will make our supply problem worse. Dr. Baltar? Please, share the results of your study." Dr. Baltar begins with, "I've calculated, that the rate of consumption, regarding basic food stuffs, for the civilian population ...this is based on information available to me at that time ...the current civilian population, of forty-five thousand two hundred and sixty-five, will require at minimum, 82 tons of grain, 85 tons of meat, 119 tons of fruit, 304 tons of vegetables, and 2.5 million JP's of water." A concerned, Captain Apollo asks, "Is that per month?", to which the doctor replies, "Per week."
