Battlestar Galactica Season One, Episode "Bastille Day ", Page 2
New Scene:
Onboard the Astral Queen, Prison Transport Vessel, we see the captain of the ship walking with Apollo and a few soldiers. The captain says, "I'm a bus driver, not a warden." Apollo asks, "How many? Total?", to which the captain replies, "Fifteen-hundred ...They don't give me their files, or their names. Hell, they're just numbers." Apollo thanks him, then the captain arrives at a control panel, flips a switch and says, "Alright, they're all yours."
Apollo grabs the microphone, clears his throat, and says, "I'm Captain Lee Adama, personal representative of the president ...We're in a crisis ...thousands of us are on the verge of dying from dehydration, but the good news is, that we have found water ...the bad news is, that it's located on a moon with harsh environmental conditions. We need one thousand able-bodied men, to help us get that water. President Roslin feels, that you represent our best chance." The camera pans around the ship to show the prisoners listening to Apollo's speech and he continues, "She, also recognizes that you are NOT slaves. Any man, who volunteers, during this emergency, will earn freedom points, which can be applied to earning his release. We're offering you a chance for a new beginning. Whoever is interested, please, just step out of your cell." The camera pans over, to show one of the prison guards pulling a switch, which unlocks over one thousand cell doors and we watch, as they swing open. However, none of the prisoners leave their cells and there is a long silence, until finally, Zarek, a known terrorist, walks out to make a statement, "Thank you, for your offer. We respectfully, decline." Suddenly, Billy notices who it is and says, "Oh my god, that's Tom Zarek!" and Dee approaches the guardrail and asks, "The terrorist!?" Seconds later, the entire prison population starts yelling the chant, "Zar-ek! Zar-ek! Zar-ek!", as they bang on their cell bars, in anger. This behavior makes it, obvious, that the prisoners have proclaimed, Zarek, their leader. Moreover, they will not help in the emergency efforts, because he does not wish it.
New Scene:
A security camera zooms in on Zarek's Cell, then pans out to the room, to show the Captain of the Astral Queen saying, "So, who the hell is Tom Zarek?" Billy replies with, "He's a freedom fighter ...He's a prisoner of conscience." and the camera pans over, to show a surprised Dee, who protests, "He's a butcher!" Billy continues with, "His colony was exploited, by the other 11, for centuries ...His people were marginal-ized, brutalized ..." Dee interrupts him with, "I'm from Sagittaron and that man does not speak for all of us! He blew up a government building and there's no excuse for that!" Cally walks toward Apollo and interrupts with, "Captain? I've been watching the clock and if we're not going to get any help, we should move on.", to which Apollo replies, "Zarek's got the prisoners united ...Let's go through Zarek ...."
New Scene:
Back on Caprica, after being on the planet for 12 days, we hear Helo yell, "Hello!? Is anybody out there!?", as the camera zooms in from above the badly damaged city. He continues to yell, "Anybody want to help two stranded pilots!?" The camera, then zooms in on both he and Boomer walking through the city, as he comments, "That's what I hate about big cities, no one will help you.", to which Boomer replies with concern, "No more shouting. You're making me nervous." Helo replies, "I feel like I'm in a movie." Boomer replies, "At least, it stopped raining." They continue walking and after a brief silence, Boomer asks, "Where the hell, is everyone?" Helo replies with, "Some are dead, in their beds, at their desks. The one's that weren't killed outright, probably ran into the hills ...it won't do any good." Boomer sighs and Helo says, "I guess, I'm getting a little ..." and she interrupts with, "Depressing? Morbid?", to which he apologizes, "Sorry, I've been here longer than you ...I wish I could say, that it gets easier." Suddenly, they hear a loud noise in the distance, which causes them to draw their weapons, to the ready. When they walk over to get a closer look, they see a great number of rats scurrying away from a dead body and Helo says, "Boomer? You might not want to...", as Boomer shows a sickened motion, covering her mouth. Helo takes a shot, to scare them away, saying, "Fracken Rats!" He turns to Boomer, who is near sick to her stomach and says, "Let's go. Hey? Hey...come on.", as he pulls her away from the disgusting sight. He continues, "Let's just find a hospital to score some anti-radiation meds ...We've only got two days worth, left." Boomer is still quite upset about the spectacle seen earlier, so Helo tries to bring her back to her senses with, "Sharon? We've made it this far, we're going to make it all the way!" She finally comes to and says, "Alright.", to which Helo replies, "Damn straight! All the way! We're doing good. Real good. Ok? Someone must be watching out for us." Boomer nods in agreement, after listening to Helo reassure her, then they continue to search for the hospital.
As they are walking away, the camera pans over to show a Number Five and Six model Cylons, discussing what they just witnessed. Aaron says, "She's good!", to which Number Six replies, "So far." Aaron replies, "Jealous?" Number six replies, "This all makes me so sad." Aaron replies with, "They would have destroyed themselves, anyway. They deserve what they got." Number Six replies, "We're the children of humanity and that makes them our parents, in a sense." Aaron replies, "True. But, parents have to die. It's the only way, children come into their own ..."
New Scene:
Back on the Astral Queen, Apollo and some guards are opening Zarek's cell door, when he stands up and puts his hands above his head. Apollo says, "No, that's not necessary." Zarek drops his hands to his side, then turns around to face Apollo, who says, "I 'ld like to talk to you." Zarek, while following procedure, says, "Guard? Prisoner 893893, request permission to speak with this visitor." The guard grants him permission, then Zarek tells Apollo, "We're not allowed to speak, unless asked a direct question. You didn't ask me a direct question. You've never been in a prison before, have you captain?" When Apollo answers, "No.", Zarek says, "You're fortunate.", then asks, "May I sit down?" Apollo replies, "Yes, of course." After a brief pause, while the guard walks away from the cell, Apollo begins with, "We need these men of yours, to help us.", to which Zarek replies, "They're not my men, they belong to you ...I belong to you ...you own us. You're the master, we're the slaves." After hearing this, Apollo says, "You're clearly a man of principle, I respect that ..." and Zarek interrupts with, "Really?" Apollo continues, "The things you stood for, over the years ...The book you wrote." Zarek replies with, "The book, that had to be smuggled out of labor camp, because stumps aren't allowed freedom of expression?" Apollo replies with, "I read it ...in college." Zarek raises his head in surprised and Apollo continues, "I thought it was radical, challenging ...it made me question some things, that I accepted before, without thinking." Zarek nods and says, "Nice to hear, I'm a big hit on campus." Apollo replies with, "You weren't, the book was banned ...I read it, anyway. The point is, I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think you realize how critical the situation is out there. People are going to start dying."
