Battlestar Galactica Season One, Episode "Bastille Day ", Page 4
The Commander stares at him in anger, then the doctor apologizes, "Pardon me. I uh ...I haven't had much sleep, recently. So ..." The commander sighs in discontent with his reply, "Unfortunately, doctor ...for both of us ...You're the last man we have ...So, what's the game plan ...Doc?" Number Six leads the doctor with, "This is what you say ...Commander? The truth is, there is one way.", but the doctor just stands there, silently. Then Number Six screams, "Say it!!!" A very meek Dr. Baltar repeats her words, "Commander? The truth is ...", as Number Six leads him the rest of the way, "I didn't want to ask you for this, but what I really need to complete the project, is a Nuclear ..." The doctor gets to the word Nuclear, then turns his head toward Number Six in shock. He turns back to the commander and finishes the sentence, "Warhead."
New Scene:
Back on the Astral Queen, Zarek is still talking to Apollo, when he asks, "Is that how you got to be the personal representative of the president? Because, of your father?" Apollo replies with a resentful, "Hardly." Zarek is surprised, but continues to ask, "So, they don't get along, Adama and Roslin?", to which Apollo nods with his reply, "They have their differences ...But, not when it comes to dealing with terrorists." Zarek is troubled by Apollo's response, so he says, "I thought you said that you respected me ...read my book." Apollo replies with, "That was before you resorted to violence and hostage taking." Zarek replies with, "It's always better, when the oppressed don't fight back, isn't it?"
New Scene:
Back on the Battlestar Galactica, Commander Adama is in disbelief, when he asks, "A warhead!?" Number Six continues to lead him, "Technically, I need the plutonium, inside." She then, says, "Figure the rest out for yourself." Dr. Baltar continues with his own words, "As you know, Cylons are susceptible to certain kinds of radiation ...and by taking the plutonium and embedding it in a carbon nanotube matrix ...and it really is, that simple. I can construct a filter that will preferentially ionize synthetic molecules and thus, deliver to you, your Cylons." Commander Adama replies with a serious, "We have five warheads left, aboard this ship ...We may need them." Dr. Baltar is relieved and says, "Oh yes, of course, if you uh ...if you really think that this project has a low priority, then you know ...your totally in your bounds to uh ..." The commander stands up to go pour another glass of water, he quietly weighs the pros and cons, then says, "You'll get your warhead." Number Six, turns to Dr. Baltar with a big smile and says, "Good boy." Dr. Baltar replies, "Thank you ...", then turns to the commander, when he realizes his words were directed in Number Six's direction, then finishes with, "..Commander."
New Scene:
We see Chief Tyrol and Boomer in a small private room, where he says, "Look. The Master at Arms, has been over every inch of that locker. She's come up with nothing." Boomer replies, "So, they've got no idea who took the 6 G4 Charges? Or Who put that detonator ..." Chief Tyrol interrupts her, "Hey, hey, hey. Don't worry about it." in attempt to reassure his frightened girlfriend. He continues with, "I'll take care of it, ok?"
Suddenly, Colonel Tigh opens the hatch door and discovers the two in a loving embrace. Colonel Tigh says, "I need to speak with the Lieutenant ...alone." A surprised Chief Tyrol, quickly leaves the room and the colonel shuts the door behind him. Colonel Tigh turns to her and says, "You don't, honestly, think you have been fooling everyone, do you? I know ...the old man knows ...hell, the whole ship knows about you and the chief. It stops, now!" Boomer tries to lie with, "Sir? The chief and I are just friends ..." Colonel Tigh interrupts her with, "Back when the ship was being decommissioned, we let you two get away with it. Hell, we let everyone get away with murder, but that was then and this is now." Colonel Tigh starts yelling, "We're at war, this is a combat unit, and you're his superior officer! Put a stop to it! That's an order." Boomer humbly replies with, "Yes, sir."
Suddenly, Gaeta is heard over the loudspeaker, "Attention! Colonel Tigh? Please, report to the CIC." and the colonel leaves the room.
New Scene:
In the CIC, we hear Zarek over the radio, "The crew are my prisoners. They will not be harmed." Commander Adama asks, "Are you recording this?", to which Gaeta replies, "Yes, sir." Colonel Tigh just arrives in the CIC and asks, "What's this?" and Commander Adama simply replies, "Trouble.", as they listen to Zarek continue with his demands, "...but, I have two conditions, before I release my captives. First, the government, which controls our fate, is illegal and illegitimate ...and it must submit to the will of the people. I demand the immediate resignation of Laura Roslin and her ministers. Second, I demand free and open elections to choose a new leadership and a new government that represents ALL of the people. These demands are made, not from me, or for the former slaves held on this ship, but for you, the people, the survivors of the holocaust and the children of humanity's future. I am Tom Zarek and this IS the first day, of a new era."
The scene fast forwards to show Commander Adama talking to the president over the radio, "We've jammed his transmissions.", to which she replies, "A little bit late, for that. Every ship in the fleet, heard that broadcast." Commander Adama replies, "It doesn't matter." and the president says, "It does matter. He's trying to bring down the government." Commander Adama replies, "No one, is going to take it seriously.", to which the president replies, "You have something to learn, when it comes to public opinion, commander. Tom Zarek is a name with weight, a very sympathetic figure, a legend almost ...20 years in prison, over a matter of principle." Commander Adama replies, "He's a terrorist and a criminal. People aren't going to give him credence." The president replies, "Don't be so sure, commander. Rebellions are contagious. People are already rioting over the water crisis. We can't afford to destabilize this government, right now." Commander Adama replies, "I agree" and the president asks, "When are you going in?" Commander Adama then says, "I assumed you were going to talk to him, first." The president replies with, "We don't negotiate with terrorists." Commander Adama replies, "I said talk." and the president says, "There's nothing to talk about ...what he wants, I can't give him." Commander Adama replies with, "We're not ready, yet. Talking to Zarek will give us a bit more time." The president replies with, "That's what he wants, he wants legitimacy ...He wants to be recognized ...He wants his crimes validated ...I watched President Adar offer him a full pardon, if he would apologize and give up violence for a means of political change. He refused." She pauses for a brief moment and continues, "No commitments, no deals." Commander Adama replies with, "I'll let you know what happens." and ends the communication.
