Battlestar Galactica Season Three, Episode "The Woman King", Page 4
Admiral Adama, finally speaks up, "Captain? I have the former President of the Colonies sitting in a prison cell, the Cylon woman is in custody, and a population that would love nothing more than to tear both of them apart. The ship is overcrowded ...and I have an epidemic on my hands." The admiral walks over and gets in Helo's face and says, "Now, the question is ...are you capable of doing a job? And are you going to stop making these, unfounded, accusations? Are you?" Helo realizes that he has no support in the room, especially that of the admiral, so he replies with a humbled, "Yes, sir." Admiral Adama, then orders, "Dismissed."
Helo, salutes the admiral and when he leaves, you can see him swearing under his breath. Suddenly, Colonel Tigh, who followed him out of the room, yells, "Agathon!" Helo, angrily turns to face him and Colonel Tigh begins with, "Why don't you knock it off, ya know? Get your teeth out of the docs ass. It's not doing you any good." Helo, replies, "With all due respect, Sir. I think Mike Robert, might be hurting people." Colonel Tigh replies with, "He is the only one, who's had anything good to say, about you, for as long as I can remember. You may as well, take what ever credibility you have left and chuck it out an airlock." Colonel Tigh then raises his voice, "You seriously want to stand up for these crazy Fracken people? What is it with you? You just like being on the outside, looking in. Don't you?" Helo, stands up to the colonel with, "I don't know quite what you mean by that, sir. Unless, you're referring to my wife ...again." Colonel Tigh responds with, "Mike Robert, is a stand up guy ...A Caprican, one of our own. A man I can trust. On New Caprica, he worked with the resistance, he patched up my eye, he fought the enemy! While you were snuggled up in bed, with your Cylon wife, every ni..." Before, the colonel finished his sentence, Helo knocks him off his feet, with a powerful right cross. Unfortunately, there are some marines nearby, who are more than willing to arrest Captain Agathon for assaulting a superior officer, but before they do, Colonel Tigh gives the order to stand down. The colonel gets to his feet and says, "So? You do, give a Frack, what your friends think. Good for you. That's how it should be, but you know what? I give a Frack, too ...about friends, about loyalty. You keep soiling Mike Robert's good name and we are going to finish this. How's that sound to you?" With that, the camera pans over to show Helo, who looks like he bit off more than he can chew. The colonel just laughs and says, "You better have the doctor look at that hand, huh?" as he turns to walk away.
New Scene:
Still onboard the Battlestar Galactica, down in the cargo hold, there are many refugees in line to talk to Helo, but he is going on a 15 minute break. He moves through the crowd of people and says, "15 minutes, people! I'll be back in 15 minutes. I'm sorry." As he moves through the crowd, he catches a glimpse of the Mrs. King, who is hoping he'll bring justice for her son's unlawful death. He pauses, to consider her words from earlier, then proceeds through, until he sees his wife and calls to her, "Sharon! What's going on?" Athena runs to him and says, "How's Hera?", to which he replies, "What do you mean, how's Hera?" Athena replies with an urgent, "She got sick, about an hour ago. They pulled me off CAP" Helo replies, "What are you talking about? No one told me!" Athena explains that Hera was sent to Dr. Robert to be treated and this brings fear to Helo's heart, so he moves quickly through the crowd to go find his daughter.
The scene fast forwards to show Helo and Athena standing in front of Dr. Robert, while he is preparing a vaccine for Hera. Suspicious, Helo says, "Ok, you know what? I don't know if she needs this." Athena, who is unaware of the what Helo suspects, replies with, "Hey, this is serious. She could die from this!", so Helo stands back to allow the doctor to continue with the vaccination. The doctor gives the baby a shot, which causes her to cry, then he hands them a bottle of pills, saying, "Now, these are a sedative in pill form. Just give her a half, every six hours. Just crush it up. Ok?" Athena replies with a worried, "Ok.", while she comforts the baby, to stop her from crying, then says, "But, she'll be ok, though?" and the doctor replies with, "She'll be fine, you can take her home." Athena thanks the doctor and leaves the room with the baby in her arms. Helo stays behind, because he suspects the doctor of foul play. The doctor stands face to face with Helo, saying a sincere, "She'll be fine. Alright?" to try to assure him that everything is on the up and up. Helo, is slightly more at ease and nods in agreement. As he turns to leave the room, the doctor stops him with, "Oh, ummm ....Listen, would you give this to Mrs. King? This belonged to her son.", as he hands Helo a bracelet. I know she 'ld want it back." The doctor's kind and thoughtful action, causes Helo to reassess his earlier suspicion, as he turns to leave the room.
Outside the room, he finds Mrs. King and approaches her with her with empathy and respect to say, "Hi ...Dr. Robert gave me this, to give to you." A surprised Mrs. King asks, "He gave you this?", as she kisses the bracelet, in memory of her son. The woman then asks, "How is your daughter?", to which Helo replies, "She's fine, thanks." Mrs. King replies, "Good.", as she turns to walk away, but Helo stops her to ask, "Mrs. King? Please. I need to ask you something." Mrs. King decides to listen, so Helo continues with, "If you thought Dr. Robert was dangerous, why let him treat your son? I mean you said, you were warned." Mrs. King, who has great heart ache in her voice, replies, "I couldn't believe anyone, could have that much hate inside of them." Helo replies with, "But, you understand that ...", but is interrupted by Mrs King, "I'm through with talking. Talking isn't going to bring Willy back." She then looks at him, as if Helo betrayed her trust and says, "I think you should leave now." Helo looks back with sorrow in his eyes and says, "Mrs. King, I ..." and realizes that no words are going to make things better, so he says, "...sorry." and turns to walk away.
New Scene:
Still onboard the Battlestar Galactica, Athena is folding some laundry in their quarters, while talking to Helo, "You seem angry." Helo replies with, "I'm not, just ...work." Athena replies with, "It's ok, that you hate your job. It's ok to admit it too." Helo raises his voice and replies with, "It's not the job! I know the job sucks, I don't need to be reminded of it." Athena looks as though her feeling are hurt, but realizes no harm was meant, so she asks, "Well, what is it?" Helo replies with, "Look ...It's what I see everyday. Ok? It's hard to not see it." Athena replies with, "See what? Talk to me Karl.", to which Helo replies, "I don't know, I keep doing it. Ya know? I keep doing it, I keep winding up on the wrong side of everything ...Maybe, Tigh's right. Maybe I want it that way. What if I'm down there, not, because I'm good at it, not, because I'm the right man for the job, but because it's the right punishment for the guy who crosses the line and everybody knows it. Maybe I belong in Dogsville." Athena cannot believe her husbands words and replies, "So, you're saying ...just leave it.", to which Helo replies, "What does that mean, just leave it?" Athena replies with, "It means that it's your job to manage these people, Helo, and you just got to do it.", while she continues to fold clothes, in frustration. Helo feels the same frustration and replies, "Yeah, you know what? You're right ...It's me. It's all in my Fracken head." Athena replies with, "I didn't say that." Helo opens the hatch to leave their quarters and Athena asks, "Where are you going?", to which he replies, "I don't know..." and the scene ends.
