Maelstrom Recap: Scene 9

Still onboard the Battlestar Galactica, Starbuck is sitting on the floor of the Memorial corridor, when Apollo finds her. When she sees him enter, she asks, "So, where do you want to go when you bite the big one? I want to go right there, next to Kat.", as she gestures toward Kat's picture hanging on the wall. Apollo looks at Starbuck and then looks at the picture, before saying, "A water walking, Viper jock." Starbuck adds, "A pain in the ass, but a hell of a stick to have on your wing." Apollo looks around and finds his spot, before saying, "You can put me, right here. Next To Duck and Nora. Good card players. Nice way to spend eternity." Starbuck replies, "Ok, so whoever croaks first, the other one makes sure that their picture goes in the right place. Deal?" Apollo looks at her with seriousness, as he is about to make a pact, before saying, "Deal."

After a short pause, Starbuck asks, "So, what did the old man have to say, about my combat report? Starbuck's, finally, gone off the deep end ...unfit for duty ..." Apollo replies with, "He said, I'm the CAG ...it's my call." Starbuck replies with a worried, "Ahh ...and what do you say?" Apollo tries to build her confidence up, by saying, "Well, I 'ld say I trust your eyes over Dredis any day of the week. Something could of been there, vanished in the cloud cover." Starbuck asks, "So, you don't think I'm nuts?" Apollo tries to lighten the mood with, "I didn't say that ...You're a raving lunatic, as demented and deranged, as the first day I met you." Starbuck smiles and says, "And you're a bastard." Apollo replies, "Look umm ...stress has made us all twitchy. After, what that Cylon put you through on New Caprica." As Apollo continues talking, Starbuck looks down on the floor and goes into a trance, to see some melted candle wax in the shape and color of the image she painted on her apartment wall. Then, Apollo finishes with, "You've had more than your share. Get some rest ...or you WILL start seeing things." When Apollo says those words, she snaps out of it and looks up to say, "Yeah."

Maelstrom Recap: Scene 10

Still onboard the Battlestar Galactica, Admiral Adama and President Roslin are walking down a corridor, when he informs her, "That leaves six civies in line to refuel." and the president replies with, "So, we have another 10 hours and we're done?", to which he replies, "Yeah." Just then, Starbuck walks around the corner, passing them without saying a word, on her way to go get some sleep. Admiral Adama is worried so he gets her attention with, "Starbuck? What do you hear?" She stops and turns around to say, "Nothing but the rain." with a smile. Admiral Adama returns their intimate greeting with, "Well then, grab your gun and bring in the cat.", as he returns the smile. Starbuck walks toward them and says, "Wilco, admiral." and nods to the president, "Madam President." Roslin greets her with, "Captain. How is it out there?" Starbuck has a big smile on her face when she replies, "Hell of a view." Admiral Adama, in a reassuring manner says, "We're almost to the finish line and we can jump the hell out of this system." Starbuck smiles and replies, "So, say we all." As they part to go their own way, Starbuck stops to say, "Umm ...actually ...sorry ...Boss? I have something for ya.", as she pulls the statuette of the goddess out of her pocket, then says, "I thought, that it would be a nice figurehead for your model ship." Admiral Adama admires the figurine, then says, "Aurora. Goddess of the Dawn." and Starbuck, affectionately replies, "Yeah, she brings a morning star and a fair wind. A fresh start." Admiral Adama, is very grateful and thanks her as though she was his own daughter, "Thank you." He nods and smiles approvingly and says, "Good, honey." Starbuck smiles ear to ear and turns to go get some sleep, before she has to return to duty for another patrol.

Maelstrom Recap: Scene 11

Chief Tyrol and Starbuck are going over a check list in the hangar bay, when he says, "Harness Assembly?" and Starbuck replies, "Lap and shoulder retaining pins, installed. Traction rail cracked. Disconnect block, yellow flight visible." When Starbuck stands up to get a better look inside, she hallucinates seeing her younger self, sitting in the cockpit, bruised and battered with a bloody nose. She makes a frightened noise, so Chief Tyrol asks, "You alright, captain?" Starbuck stares for a minute, then says, "Ahhh ...give me a minute ...here, chief." At this point, Starbuck thinks she's losing it, as the child looks real to life, flesh and bone.

As she stares into the child's eyes, her hallucination travels back in time, before the Cylon attack on Caprica, to see her mother lighting a cigarette, before sounds of a brutal fight, between them, is heard in the background. The flashback quickly moves from one scene to another, showing the young Starbuck's hand being slammed in the doorway, the painting of the supernova on her wall, the carving of the same supernova in the "Temple of Five", and finally the supernova itself, before Starbuck finally snaps out of it.
