Battlestar Galactica Season Three, Episode "The Son Also Rises", Page 1
There are 41,399 humans left in the fleet at the beginning of this episode, which starts out onboard the Battlestar Galactica, where Admiral Adama is reviewing some of Starbuck's military records, specifically, one of her many disciplinary notices. He pulls the photograph out of the file and holds it in his hands for a moment, while remembering his fallen loved one. He takes his glasses off and continues to reflect on how much of an asset she was, as his best Viper Pilot and Top Ace in the fleet. He remembers her with fondness, as if she was his own daughter and his expression shows great remorse.
The Son Also Rises Recap: Scene Two
Onboard the Colonial One, President Roslin is supervising some sort of lottery procedure and she begins by saying, "Here's every captain, from every ship in the fleet.", as one of her aides pulls a folded piece of paper, from a large container full of names. The president unfolds the piece of paper and reads, "Captain Elias Meeker, Gideon.", then her aide draws another name.
The Son Also Rises Recap: Scene Three
Back onboard the Battlestar Galactica, Admiral Adama is still reviewing some of Starbuck's records, when he finds a document recording a Combat Citation and Field Commendation for Valor and Bravery, that was awarded to his Top Gun. As he is going through the documents, he finds performance evaluations and more disciplinary notices. One of them reads:
Lieutenant Kara Thrace is charged with:
Assault on a superior officer.
Drunk and disorderly conduct, while on leave.
Disobeying a direct order from a superior officer.
Absent from duty without leave.
The admiral continues to go through the documents and even more disciplinary notices are revealed...
The scene, briefly, switches back to the Colonial One, where President Roslin is handed another piece of paper and she says, "And the last name for the tribunal is ..." and lets out a gasp of surprise.
Back onboard the Battlestar Galactica, the admiral finds a folded note from Starbuck, that reads, "You were always like a father to me ..." He opens the note and finds a photo of her with glasses on and a mustache drawn on her smiling face and at the top he reads, "See the resemblance?" The admiral let's out a joyful laugh, but you can see tears accompany the moment, as he remembers how much they cared about each other. The camera pans down to the bottom of the note and it reads, "Happy Birthday, young man. Much love, Kara." Admiral Adama gets choked up and tries to regain his composure by wiping the tears from his eyes, before saying, "Yeah ...Yeah, I see the resemblance." and smiles in reflection.
The Son Also Rises Recap: Scene Four
Still onboard the Battlestar Galactica, Anders is drunk, standing on top of one of the Vipers in the hangar bay and yells, "One more for heads! ...Watch.", as he flips a coin and catches it, before it hits the ground. He yells, "Heads! You see that!? Four in a row, that's a Fracken miracle." He waves a bottle of alcohol in the air, then says, "Watch this, one more time. It's going to be heads ...Watch." and flips the coin. When he catches the coin, he yells, "Heads! Every time! Did you see that!?" Several deck hands and a few pilots surround the Viper and Fagurskey tries to coach the drunken Anders down by saying, "Hey, why don't you come down from there?" Anders is defiant with his reply, "I'm just fine, right here.", as he flips the coin, yet again.
The Son Also Rises Recap: Scene Five
Still onboard the Battlestar Galactica, Apollo is standing in the Memorial Corridor, trying to locate that sacred spot on the wall, where Starbuck requested her photograph to be hung. He pulls her photo from his pocket, but suddenly hears a door being opened and decides the moment is too private to share, so he shoves it back in his pocket. Footsteps are heard coming from behind and Racetrack says, "Major?" Apollo is preoccupied, but gathers his composure enough to reply, "Yeah?"
The Son Also Rises Recap: Scene Six
Still onboard the Battlestar Galactica, Anders continues to be disorderly, down in the hangar bay. He yells, "Heads!!! You see that? My girl's too lucky, to check out." and the camera pans over, to show Apollo and Racetrack approaching the Viper. Apollo sighs in empathy, because he knows what Anders is going through, but he has a responsibility and calls out to him, "Hey, sam." Anders gives a drunken reply, "Leeeeee....Apolloooo...." and starts laughing hysterically. Apollo climbs up on top of the Viper and says, "How you doing, there buddy? You're flying." He tries to coach Anders down, by grabbing his shoulders and saying, "Let's just get down and get some sleep. Come on." Anders is not very cooperative with his reply, "I'm not ...I'm fine ...I'm just going to sit down.", as he plops down on the nose of the Viper and says, "Ow!" Apollo asks, "You alright?", as he looks into Anders grieving eyes. Anders sees remorse and empathy in Apollo's eyes and can no longer hold back, as he breaks down in tears. Overshadowed with despair, he incoherently, begs for understanding, "It wasn't ..." Apollo interrupts him with, "Come on.", as he continues to try to coach him down from the Viper. Suddenly, Anders stands up and says, "No, I gotta ...", but he loses his footing and falls all the way to the hard deck floor. Apollo yells in shock, "Frack! Is he ok?", as he quickly climbs down off the Viper. Several pilots and crewman surround Anders, before he says, "Ow! Oh, I think I fell." Apollo approaches him and says, "Sit down. Sit down.", as Anders tries to get up. Anders moans in pain, as he rises to a sitting position, then asks, "She's still alive, right?" Apollo tries to consul him by saying, "She's gone, Sam. She's gone." and Anders cries in remorse, "I know."
