Crossroads Part 1 Recap: Scene 7
Onboard the Battlestar Galactica, the camera zooms in on the Prosecutor, as she begins her opening remarks for Dr. Baltar's trial, "How do we measure loss?" The camera zooms out, to show Dr. Baltar is seated with his defense team, Romo Lampkin and Lee Adama, then the prosecutor continues by repeating the question with more emphasis, "How do we measure loss? ...We measure it, in the faces of the dead. The faces that haunt our memories and our dreams. How do we measure loss? We measure it, in our own faces, the ones we see in the mirror, every day ...Because, it has marked each of us. So, how do we measure loss, when the scale of it, becomes too hard to absorb any other way? We use numbers ...how many killed, how many maimed, how many missing ...and when those numbers become to vast to comprehend, as they did two years ago, we had to turn it around. We began to count the living ...those of us, who survived to continue the saga of the human race." The prosecutor walks over to write on the marker board and continues, "44,035 ...the some total of survivors, from the twelve colonies, who settled on New Caprica, with President Gaius Baltar as their leader and protector ...38,838 ...our number the day after we escaped. ...And the missing number? The one that no one wants to face ...5,197! Five thousand, one hundred and ninety seven, of us! ...killed, left behind, or simply disappeared. Five thousand, one hundred and ninety seven, of all that remains of the human race! Plus ...the citizens of the twelve colonies, entrusted their faith and their lives to Gaius Baltar." The camera, quickly switches from scene to scene, showing everyone in the entire fleet listening to the prosecutor speak, then she continues, "What we received was a reign of terror that staggers our minds and breaks our hearts. Instead of, government? We got tyranny. Instead of justice, we got oppression. Instead of a president, we got a murderer. Today, he will be held accountable for his crimes. Gaius Baltar, is not a victim. Gaius Baltar, chose to side with the Cylons and to actively seek the death of his fellow citizens. For that? He MUST pay the ultimate price."
With those words, the prosecutor walks back to her desk and sits down. The room is silent, while everyone reflects on what she said, then the camera pans over to Lampkin, who is shaking his head in disappointment, knowing that he has an impossible act to follow. However, he shocks everyone when he says, "Your honors? The defense would like to change our plea, to guilty." One of the judges of the tribunal gasps in surprise and says, "What? Counselor? Are you sure you want to do that?" Lampkin gets to his feet and says, "No, but what choice do I have? I mean, it's obvious my client is guilty. He's a traitor! ...and a killer! He's no better than the Cylons and what do we do with them?" Suddenly, someone in the crowd yells, "Throw him out the air lock!!" and Lampkin yells back, "That's right! Throw him out the air lock!" He points at Baltar and says, "This man, sold us to our enemy. This man IS our enemy! ...And if there's one thing that is good in war, that is right and just and proper, is SLAUGHTERING OUR ENEMY!! Getting some RIGHTEOUS!! PAYBACK!! WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR!!!??? LET'S JUST KILL HIM NOW!!! ...It would be easier, wouldn't it? Simpler ...justice of the mob ...it's what they want", as he points to the witnessing crowd of people. He sees the president walk up and take a seat in the crowd, so he points at her and says, "Especially her. She's been wanting this for over a year, now. Ever since, he beat her in a free and fair election of the people. Now, she has a chance to exact her revenge, upon a man, who's only REAL crime, is BOWING to the inevitable. Gaius Baltar saved the lives of the people on New Caprica. Where, Laura Roslin, would have seen us all dead, victims of a battle, we had NO HOPE IN WINNING! I don't know about you, but I'm glad she was not the president, when the Cylons arrived and said surrender or DIE!! I owe my life, to Gaius Baltar and the decision he made that day ...so does Laura Roslin." Romo Lampkin walks back to his chair and takes a seat, while the entire room is filled with silence, once again.
Crossroads Part 1 Recap: Scene 8
Back at the last jump point, Racetrack's scout ship is still hidden near an asteroid and scanning for any sign of the enemy and the camera zooms in on the cockpit, where her co-pilot says, "Yeah, like you Fracking know." and she replies, "I know you wank it in your rack. Ladies men." Her co-pilot replies, "You see, that's called self healing." Then, Racetrack looks at her watch and says, "Ok, time check.", but just then, an alarm goes off and her co-pilot says, "Oh! We got something!" Racetrack looks up at the Dredis console and her co-pilot jumps to his feet saying, "Lots of company!"
They both hurry to their stations and her co-pilot yells, "Reading three, four, no five Baseships. Frack!! They're right on top of us!" Racetrack yells, "Frack! Incoming! We gotta jump! Now, God damn it! Now!" Suddenly, the camera pans out side the ship to show a missile headed directly for them, but in a flash of light, the Raptor makes the hyper jump to safety. Then, the camera pans over to show the glooming presence of four huge Baseships and many Cylon Raiders searching for Racetrack's Raptor.
Crossroads Part 1 Recap: Scene 9
Back onboard the Battlestar Galactica, in the CIC, Admiral Adama orders, "Begin searching the entire fleet, for tracking devices. It's possible, they could have placed one on a ship, on New Caprica." President Roslin speaks up, "I think that we should ask the sixth. She may be willing to help." Colonel Tigh scoffs at the idea and says, "Baltar's girlfriend? Why would she do that?" and the president replies, "Because, she does not want to see Hera go back to the Cylons." Colonel Tigh asks, "Do you think that thing, would stick her neck out for some half-Cylon whelp?" President Roslin replies, "I have a feeling she would lay her life down for it." Admiral Adama has doubts and interrupts with the question, "A feeling?", to which the president replies, "It's more than a feeling, alright? Just do it. It doesn't hurt to ask." and she leaves the CIC. Admiral Adama watches her leave the Command Information Center and agrees, then turns to Colonel Tigh and gives the order, "Ask the prisoner, if it knows of any tracking devices in the fleet." Colonel Tigh enthusiastically replies, "With pleasure." and leaves to carry out the order.
Apollo, seems suspicious of the president's behavior and leans over to smell the cup of liquid she was drinking, then straightens up to show a suspicious look on his face.
Crossroads Part 1 Recap: Scene 10
Still onboard the Battlestar Galactica, Colonel Tigh enters Caprica Six's cell and says, "The president, gods bless her sunny optimistic soul, thinks you might want to share how your buddies have been tracking us. So, I'm here to ask the question and listen to your lies." Caprica Six gives a worried look and says, "In the last battle, we discovered your fuel ship had a unique radiation signature. They must have found a way to track it." Colonel Tigh looks surprised at her answer, then asks, "What else do you know? What other secrets are rattling around inside the mechanical brain?"
Suddenly, Caprica Six starts to hallucinate Dr. Baltar and he advises, "Don't be intimidated by him. He's just using you, to exercise his own pain. Poor old Saul. He lost someone close to him. But, you know how that feels, don't you?"
